In her introduction Rose Elliot says she wanted to the recipes "to be a bit different; fresh, bold, stunning yet simple"
In this book she has achieved that goal. The recipes are easy – most take a modest 20-30 minutes to prepare and yet they look stunning.
It is full of interesting ideas – ways to produce old favourites in a different guise, bringing them up to date but not so extreme that they lose their appeal. Recipes such as roast potatoes in sea salt and balsamic vinegar or the individual Pavlovas with pomegranate and grenadine, or bubble and squeak cakes with beetroot relish, or using dauphinoise potatoes to make a roulade – brilliant! And sprinkled amongst these are recipes with less familiar ingredients such as the plantain bhajis or umeboshi paste.
The book is clearly presented and the recipes easy to follow. There is a full colour photograph of almost every dish and the visual presentation is a treat. I have always been a fan of her cookery books because her recipes always work. This book is no exception. Recommended.
Rose Elliot has written over 60 cookery books during her 35 year career and is Britain’s foremost vegetarian cookery book writer.
