Introduction

I am a final year graduate student, based in Singapore, soon to be searching for a job.

I like to promote vegetarianism to the world and hope to start my own business in the future. My blog will be about my thoughts and experiences, and how it is like being a vegetarian in Singapore.

Singapore is a sunny island-country located 1 degree north of the equator in South East Asia. The temperature is about 27C to 32C all year round. If you come here to visit, you will be thrilled to find vegetarian eateries almost everywhere (the important thing is whether you know where they are). Singapore is a multi-racial and multi-religion country, and the major languages spoken are English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil. A large number of the people here are of Chinese ethnicity, so you will see a lot of the vegetarian outlets selling Chinese food. Some of these eateries, however, also serve vegetarian versions of non-Chinese cuisines. I will let you know
more about the vegetarian food in Singapore in my next post, stay tuned!

Singapore sounds a facinating place. It seems to be one of the few places around the world where a vegetarian can find a meal with ease.

Hi Sara, yes, you can find vegetarian food easily here, especially in / near places with a lot of buzz. Areas with Buddhist and Chinese temples may also have vegetarian eateries nearby.

Hi,

I have been in Singapore for five days now and am struggling to find vegetarian food - everything has meat in it. The meals you suggested sound good but do they really have no meat?

I would really appreciate some information on where to buy vegetarian food to cook myself as I am not having much luck in normal supermarkets.

Thanks

Emma

Hi Emma,
Sorry for my late reply.. Yes there are many places serving vegetarian food in Singapore. If you are not looking for particular reviews on them you can find it on Singapore vegetarian society's website.

To get around places in Singapore which I am not familiar I use the online street directory
http://www.streetdirectory.com/

If you are looking for speciality stores which sells mock meat, you can try this address: blk 150 lor 1 toa payoh #01-999. If I am not mistaken this places sells more reasonable priced mock meat.

Hi---Dreamy:

I found your blog today, i've never been to Singapore, but i'm a big fan, have always wanted to visit Asia and especially Tokyo. I think it is a happening city and love the culture and nightlife. Great blog you have here, would love to do a linky exchange with you on my Groovy Vegetarian blog. Let me know. Perhaps we can refer (American vs Asian) readers back and forth.

See ya around.
Missy.

Hi, I found your blog while searching online regarding vegetarianism in Singapore. I'm a vegetarian too. = ) I'm doing a research on 'is Singapore Vegetarian Friendly?' and would like to seek you view. You can email me at lisameow@hotmail. thank you.

Hi,

I have a questions and I hope you can respond. I am veggie who is fairly strict about eating organic. We are contemplating a move to Sinapore. Is organic shopping available? Specifically, organic milk and eggs? How easy/not easy is it to find organic products? Are there any organic American brands or are they all Asia-based brands? Thank you so much if you have time to respond. I really appreciate it!
